SOLSTICE BELLS

The Solstice Bells Project

At the moment of the Winter Solstice on December 21, 2026—when the Earth begins its turn back toward the light—people around the world are invited to ring a bell, any bell, as part of Solstice Bells, a global participatory event celebrating the return of light and the belief that hope has a sound.

Created by Greg Niemeyer, Darren Zhu, and Mark Barger Elliott, Solstice Bells brings people across cultures, communities, and geographies together in a shared global moment of sound, reflection,  and wonder at our shared capacity to positively shape the larger human story.

Solstice Bells: The Documentary

The Solstice Bells documentary will follow individuals and communities as they prepare for this shared global moment: the stories they carry, the traditions they inherit, the losses they have endured, the hopes they hold, and the reasons they choose to participate.

Across cultures and continents, people mark the darkest days of the year in different ways. Yet beneath those traditions lies a common human desire for meaning, connection, and hope.

As part of the documentary, we invite individuals, families, communities, and organizations to share their Solstice Bells journey with us.

Every bell has a story. Every gathering has a reason. Whether you are a church bell choir, a school community, a family creating a new tradition, a musician, artist, or activist, a small town, or a neighborhood gathering, we would love to hear from you. Together, these individual moments form a global chorus of hope, reflection, and renewal.
